The first school break of the year is approaching, and, of course, Royal Djurgården’s museums and attractions have prepared with lots of fun activities for both young and old. Regardless of interests, there will be something for everyone. Among many things, there will be snowball hunts, board games,  superheroes, time travels, Winter break camp and, of course, family tours and lots of crafts.

Below you’ll find our Winter break tips for 2025, choose something exciting to look forward to!

ABBA The Museum- snowball hunt

Go on a snowball hunt in the museum exhibition, during the sports holidays someone has hidden snowballs in the museum, help mum and dad to find them.

Experience fun moments from the Viking Age during the winter break

Did people have fun during the Viking Age? Absolutely! Games, play and sports were also important during the Viking Age. In archaeological findings, game boards and pieces have been discovered, and in the sagas, we hear about duels, sports and games.

Visit The Viking Museum and try out board games from the Viking Age and explore artifacts related to Viking-era games during the winter break. Every day, you can also join a family tour in English at 10.30 am, 12.30 pm, 2.30 pm and 4.30 pm, and there will always be Vikings in the exhibitions to answer all your questions.

Winter Break at VRAK

At VRAK, they have a packed programme during week 9 with sports holiday activities that are all free, bring your family and prepare for an exciting day. Here you can read about some of the things to do .

Dive into the world of a marine archaeologist!

Have you ever wondered what it feels like to float weightless in the depths of the ocean and discover hidden treasures on the seabed? Now is your chance to meet Vrak’s diving marine archaeologists! They’ll show you their cool diving equipment and tell you about amazing finds from the Baltic’s past. Dare you ask what their most exciting discovery is? Who knows, maybe they’ll inspire you to become the underwater adventurer of the future!

Explore the Diving Tank House – a time machine for divers
Step into the Diving Tank House, where the secrets of diving history await you! Imagine the first brave divers who used heavy helmets and clumsy shoes to descend to the dark depths of the sea. Here you can step into their shoes – literally – and try the equipment yourself! Admire remarkable inventions like the first water scooter and wonder what the great mind has really been up to. Can you solve the mysteries of the wreck hunt?

Magical experiments in the world of the sea
Imagine stepping into a world of bubbles and salt splashes, where together with Vrak’s guides you can test the mysterious powers of the sea. How does salinity affect the water in the Baltic Sea? How can a diving bell hold air underwater? And why do some things sink while others float like little magical crafts? Come and find out – the experiments are adapted to your age!

Dream away in the cosy corner
Take a deep breath and step into the underwater world in the Travelling Man exhibition. Here you can settle down on a soft carpet, surrounded by bubbling sounds, and disappear into the adventures of Lasse Åberg’s wonderful children’s books. Perfect for little divers aged 6 to 9!

Art guiding for the whole family at Thielska Galleriet

23 and 26 February
Take the family on an exciting art tour suitable for children 5-12 years and accompanying adults. Pre-registration to cecilia.rainer@thielskagalleriet.se
Free admission for children, adults pay the regular admission fee.

Play at Skansen

22/2-2/3 (and weekends 15-16/2 and 8-9/3)
Sports holidays are for getting active and Skansen is the place to do just that! Let loose in Bragehallen where there will be sports like table tennis and games like Fia with Knuff. You can also move through history at Bollnästorget where Skansen shows games from the past. See how children have played throughout the ages, and who knows? Maybe you’ll find a favourite?

In addition to games, you can also take part in family shows, storytelling in Back Mat’s cabin, a hint walk and animal talk, or why not enjoy sausages on the square?

Pirate theme at the Maritime Museum

22/2 – 2/3

The Maritime History Museum will be hosting exciting pirate adventures during the sports holidays. Dive into the world of pirates and get acquainted with some of history’s most famous pirates through both storytelling sessions and family tours. Don’t miss the museum’s ‘Blubb’ playroom, where you’ll be transported to a magical part of the Baltic Sea with submarines, fish, sunken treasure and wrecks!

 

 

Nordiska museet: Time Travel and Family Mission

Get ready for a journey through time at the Nordic Museum, where the Time Vault takes you through a magical portal that leads you through children’s history from the 1870s to the present day. Step into the playhouse and experience life as a child on a 19th century farm.

During the holidays, exciting family missions await you, such as solving the mystery of the missing marzipan figurine and embarking on a mission through the iceberg in the Arctic exhibition.

Packed winter break program at the Police Museum 

24/2 – 3/3
Join an exciting guided tour and solve the mystery of the missing gold medallion. Could the former champion Inge Glid have something to do with it? Help the museum staff solve the winter break mystery! Additionally, you can participate in the “Talk Police” tour and learn more about what the police have in their belt and how fast they can really drive. In the children’s exhibition “Police, Police…” you can dress up in a police uniform and “drive blue” in the police car.

Winter break at The Vasa Museum

22/2 – 2/3

See the family show: The ship Fasa sails again, playing twice a day throughout the sports holidays, from Saturday 22 February to Sunday 2 March. There are many similarities with the voyage of the ship Vasa.

During the holidays, you can also try your hand at beating a rope or learn the ancient technique of plaiting. Don’t miss the audio guide for children about the boy Olof who got a job on board the Vasa, the film about the Vasa Pig and puzzles for the youngest. The restaurant is open for those who want to fill up on food or coffee.
