Christmas Eve Activities at Royal Djurgården!
25/11/2024Just because it’s Christmas Eve it doesn’t mean that all museums, restaurants, and cafes are closed here at Royal Djurgården! The island itself is open all day, year-round, for you to enjoy, and on Christmas Eve, there are plenty of fun and cozy activities to enjoy. So why not take a break from all the Christmas festivities and visit Djurgården for a while! Here are some tips on what to do at Djurgården on Christmas Eve.
Take a wintry walk at Skansen and visit the winter-awakened Nordic animals and explore the beautifully decorated houses and farms. When you feel for something to eat, both Stora Gungan and Gamla Krogen are open for coffee, pastries and food. In the Skansen shop at Logen, you can also take the opportunity to buy last-minute Christmas gifts. The Baltic Sea Science Center is also open, and at 11 am, there’s an animal talk in the Aquarium Hall.
If you want to meet even more animals, Skansen Aquarium is open between 10 am and 3 pm, where you can visit crocodiles, snakes, spiders and turtles.
Nordiska museet is open as usual between 10 am and 5 pm on Christmas Eve. In the Grand Hall, they welcome you with atmospheric tones from the piano; drop by and listen to jazzy and classical music between 11 am and 2 pm (free admission). During the day, there are also guided tours on Nordic traditions and winter holidays at 11 am and 2 pm. If you want to learn more about the tastiest food through time, there’s a family-friendly tour at 1 pm in the exhibition ‘Table settings’.
ABBA The Museum is also open on Christmas Eve, come by, forget the Christmas stress and let loose for a while. Sing ABBA karaoke, dance and perform on stage with ABBA and become their fifth member or test your ABBA knowledge in the museum quiz. The museum is open between 10 am and 3 pm.
With its 12,000 square meters, Tekniska museet has something for the whole family. On Christmas Eve, the museum is open between 10 am and 3 pm. During the day, you can, among other things, take a guided tour of the model railway and experience space like never before. Step aboard the space vessel Wisdome Stockholm, put on the 3D glasses, and get ready for an adventure through the universe with a pilot and a navigator offering a star-studded space show on Christmas Eve.
Take a break from museum visits and visit the Djurgården Church, which holds a Christmas prayer at 3 pm. Enjoy a quiet moment with prayer, music, and atmospheric songs.
Take the opportunity to enjoy a cosy Christmas coffee or lunch before the Christmas table. Restaurant Djurgårdsbron is open 9.00-15.00, come by for a cosy glögg coffee or something good to eat. Other restaurants that are open are Hasselbackens restaurant and Villa Godthem.
