The first school break of the year is approaching, and, of course, Royal Djurgården’s museums and attractions have prepared with lots of fun activities for both young and old. Regardless of interests, there will be something for everyone. Among many things, there will be snowball hunts, board games,  superheroes, time travels, Winter break camp and, of course, family tours and lots of crafts.

Below you’ll find our Winter break tips for 2024, choose something exciting to look forward to!

Snowball hunt at Abba The Museum 

24/2 – 3/3
It becomes extra magical for the children during the winter break at Abba The Museum. The museum staff has organized a fun snowball hunt where snowballs are hidden in the exhibition. A perfect way for the little ones to explore and have fun throughout the break.

Let your inner superhero shine this winter break at Junibacken!

Join Junibacken for an exciting experience during the winter break, with a special focus on the children’s book series “Handbook for Superheroes.” Superheroes can take on many different appearances. How does your favorite superhero look? Come dressed up, and receive a small gift from Junibacken.

The books are mainly about bullying, friendship and collaboration. What does it mean to be a good friend? Junibacken invites visitors of all ages to fill the Friendship Wall with qualities that are important in a friendship.

On February 25th, Junibacken will also get a visit from the authors of the books Elias Våhlund and Agnes Våhlund who will have a reading and book signing in the bookstore.

Don’t miss the opportunity to visit the Pavilion, that has been transformed into a dressing room during the sports break, where you can transform into several of the popular superheroes from the books.

Experience fun moments from the Viking Age during the winter break

Did people have fun during the Viking Age? Absolutely! Games, play and sports were also important during the Viking Age. In archaeological findings, game boards and pieces have been discovered, and in the sagas, we hear about duels, sports and games.

Board games at the Viking Museum

Visit The Viking Museum and try out board games from the Viking Age and explore artifacts related to Viking-era games during the winter break. Every day, you can also join a family tour in English at 10.30 am, 12.30 pm, 2.30 pm and 4.30 pm, and there will always be Vikings in the exhibitions to answer all your questions.

On March 2, between 11 am and 1 pm, the illustrator of the Siri Viking book series, Per Demervall, will be signing his books and demonstrating how to draw Vikings.

Musse & Helium at Cirkus

The success Musse & Helium will spend the break here at Djurgården! At Cirkus, all families’ favorite mice will put on a show on 3 occasions. Dancing, music and mischief are some of the things you can expect in this magical family show. Bring the whole family on March 1 or 2 and watch Musse & Helium’s journey to pop stardom in the show “Mickey & Helium: Shoot for the Stars!”. Read more and buy tickets here.

Prins Eugens Waldemarsudde:  Winter Break Camp

27, 28, 29 february
Waldemarsudde offers a unique three-day winter sports camp for children aged 8-12 during the winter break. Over these days, the children will get to know Prince Eugen and be inspired by his art collection and beautiful home. In the museum’s studio, they will also have the opportunity to try various art techniques, paint landscape scenes, sculpt mythological beings, and work on collages.

Pirate theme at the Maritime Museum

24/2 – 3/3

Treasure chest hunt at the Maritime Museum.

At the Maritime Museum, there will be an exciting pirate adventure during the winter break. Dive into the world of pirates and acquaint yourself with some of history’s most famous pirates. In addition to storytelling sessions and family tours, there will also be a treasure chest hunt and an opportunity to create your own pirate ship in the Workshop “Ruskpricken”.  Don’t miss the opportunity to also explore the museum’s fun playroom “Blubb”, which is a magical part of the Baltic Sea featuring submarines, fish, sunken treasures and wrecks.

Marine Archaeology and Underwater Adventures at Vrak – Museum of Wrecks

26/2 – 3/3
At Vrak – Museum of Wrecks, it will be educational and exciting during the winter break. Meet marine archaeologists and learn more about their work, try diving with VR headsets, and participate in a workshop where you can create your own underwater creatures in clay. Explore the museum’s neighbor, the Dive Tank House, filled with peculiar diving equipment and a mysterious large tank, and discover what it may have been used for

Nordiska museet: Time Travel and Family Mission

Get ready for a journey through time at the Nordiska museet, where the Time Vault takes you through a magical portal, guiding you through children’s

history from the 1870s to the present. Step into the Children’s playhouse and experience life as a child on a 19th-century farm. During the break, exciting family missions await, such as solving the mystery of the missing marzipan figure and embarking on a mission through the iceberg in the Arctic exhibition.

Winter break with the theme Arctic

The Museum of Ethnography

Discover exciting adventures during the winter break at the Museum of Ethnography with the theme Arctic! Join guided tours and listen to captivating stories about the Arctic, embark on the fun children’s trail “Polar Bear’s Tracks” and explore creativity through engaging crafts in the museum’s workshop.

Enjoy winter break at Skansen

Enjoy winter break at Skansen, unleash your energy in Bragehallen, where there will be sports like table tennis and games like Fia med Knuff. You can also journey through history at Bollnästorget, where Skansen showcases games from the past. See how children have played throughout the ages, and who knows? Maybe you’ll discover a new favorite?

In addition to games, you can also join family tours, storytelling in Back Mats’ cottage, a quiz walk, or why not enjoy a hotdog at the square? There’s something for everyone!

Packed winter break program at the Police Museum

Join an exciting guided tour and solve the mystery of the missing gold medallion. Could the former champion Inge Glid have something to do with it? Help the museum staff solve the winter break mystery! Additionally, you can participate in the “Talk Police” tour and learn more about what the police have in their belt and how fast they can really drive. In the children’s exhibition “Police, Police…” you can dress up in a police uniform and “drive blue” in the police car.

Gaming at Tekniska, National Museum of Science and Technology

At Tekniska, National Museum of Science and Technology, the winter break transforms into a gaming week. There will be a fantastic mix of Nintendo and Xbox games for the whole family. As if that wasn’t enough, there’s a total experience with a 1,000 square meter floor dedicated to all kinds of gaming experiences you can imagine in Play Beyond Play.

Take the opportunity to bring a friend, partner, neighbor, or why not the whole family and experience an action-packed gaming break.

Winter break at The Vasa Museum

19/2 – 3/3
Super builders are coming to the museum to create a LEGO® model of the Titanic in front of the audience, and the brick magician Stefan Eriksson is performing magic shows for the whole family.

Don’t miss the audio guide for children about the boy Olof, who got a job aboard the Vasa, the film about the Vasa Pig, and puzzles for the little ones. The restaurant is open for those who want to replenish with food or snacks.

Family tour at Thielska Gallery

25/2 and 29/2
Discover the art treasure at Thiel Gallery during the winter break and delve into an impressive collection from the turn of the century. Explore paintings capturing leaping winter hares, snow-filled landscapes and atmospheric cityscapes. In the ongoing exhibition with Maria Friberg, exciting photographs of people in nature are also featured. It’s a must to take a closer look at these fascinating works during the winter break.

Pentathlon, sports holiday quiz walk and hobbyhorse competitions at the National Sports Museum

Weeks 8-10
The sports holiday week at the National Sports Museum offers a variety of fun activities for all ages. Here you can participate in the pentathlon in the

National Sports Museum

SportLab exhibition and test your balance, strength, reaction, speed and agility. For gaming enthusiasts, there are hockey games to challenge your friends and a fun sports holiday quiz walk to participate in. In the museum’s workshop, children aged 5 and up can paint and create their own reflectors.

During weeks 8 and 10, guided children’s tours are offered at 2 pm. Additionally, children can participate in the exciting hobbyhorse race during week 9, where diplomas are awarded to participants. It’s a week filled with fun and learning for the whole family at the National Sports Museum.
