The Baltic Sea is our shared sea<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Its brackish waters \u2013 a mixture of fresh and salt water \u2013 have created a unique environment where species have adapted to a habitat found nowhere else in the world. We know that the sea is under severe pressure from eutrophication, dead seabeds, marine litter, overfishing, pollutants and climate change. We also know that change is possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Baltic Sea Week<\/strong> is a new initiative with the message \u201cCelebrate the sea, save the sea\u201d<\/strong>, bringing together Djurg\u00e5rden\u2019s museums, restaurants and knowledge-based organisations. Through food experiences, talks, family activities, exhibitions and culture, we want to inspire engagement and highlight examples of how we can work together to create a healthier sea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Baltic Sea Week begins on Djurg\u00e5rden and takes place 27 August\u20132 September<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BALTIC SEA-FRIENDLY FOOD AT DJURG\u00c5RDEN RESTAURANTS<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

VENUES:<\/strong> Augusta at Thielska, Junibacken, Mackverket at Vrak, Prins Eugens Waldemarsudde, Rosendals Tr\u00e4dg\u00e5rd, the restaurant at the National Museum of Science and Technology, Sj\u00f6historiska Caf\u00e9 and Bar, the restaurant at Spritmuseum, Stockholm 1897 by Monika, Ulla Winbladh, the Vasa Museum restaurant, and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the week, several Djurg\u00e5rden\u2019s restaurants will offer dishes inspired by Baltic Sea-friendly ingredients. A simple and delicious way to discover how our choices of food and drink can contribute to a healthier sea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PADDLE FOR THE BALTIC SEA \u2013 GREEN KAYAK<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

LOCATION:<\/strong> Sj\u00f6historiska \u2013 the Swedish National Maritime and Transport Museums<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Borrow a kayak completely free of charge and help collect litter from the water together with Green Kayak. An activity that combines an experience in nature with a tangible environmental benefit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

FAMILY TOUR: PADDLE!<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

On Saturday and Sunday, family tours of the Paddle!<\/em> exhibition will focus on the Swedish right of public access at sea and how we can enjoy the water while respecting nature. The exhibition is open every day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SAVE THE MORNING SWIM<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

LOCATION:<\/strong><\/strong> Wherever you are along the Baltic Sea coast<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Take the plunge! By going for a morning swim and taking part in swims along the entire coastline, we can show just how many people care about the Baltic Sea. Take a photo and tag #r\u00e4ddamorgondoppet<\/strong> on social media on 27 August.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AFTER WORK FOR TEACHERS: CURRENT RESEARCH ON THE BALTIC SEA (in Swedish)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

A professional development session for teachers focusing on eutrophication and the environmental challenges facing the Baltic Sea. Teachers and principals working with lower and upper secondary education will gain inspiration and knowledge to bring back to the classroom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

HERBARIUM \u2013 A BALTIC SEA-THEMED DINNER<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

A unique dinner where food, nature and sustainability come together. The evening offers flavours and stories inspired by the Baltic Sea, created by Rosendals Tr\u00e4dg\u00e5rd\u2019s gastronomic director Paul Svensson and head chef Olle Brostr\u00f6m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hanna Anfelter from Plogga and Gabriel Arthur from Utsidan invite runners to help clean up quays and beaches, starting and finishing at Wasahamnen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The plogging<\/em> activity starts at 16:00 and lasts approximately one hour. Please let us know that you are coming via Plogga\u2019s Facebook event<\/a>. Come dressed for the activity \u2013 bags and gloves will be provided.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SOUP TALK \u2013 new habitats in the Baltic Sea (in Swedish)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Can a pile of rocks help create a richer marine environment?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During a soup talk at the Vasa Museum, the vision for Isbladsrevet<\/strong> on Djurg\u00e5rden will be presented \u2013 an innovative project where reused blasted rock could create new habitats beneath the surface in Stockholm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fred Hocker, Head of Research at the Vasa Museum, will also take us on a journey through human exploration of the sea, from the 19th century to the present day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The soup is inspired by Bl\u00e5 mat \/ Blue food<\/strong>, an initiative that supports the Baltic Sea through sustainable ingredients, seasonal cooking and a focus on reducing environmental impact. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
