Swedes might say they love winter, but when th<\/span>e days start getting longer and lighter, it\u2019s a sure sign that our beloved summer is on its way.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Spring is a time, therefore, when we start to feel positive and inspired. Royal Djurg\u00e5rden is a green oasis, so for Stockholmers and visitors alike, it is<\/span> the<\/span><\/i> place to experience the beautiful greenery and flowers that blossom as spring begins. It is also home to lots of exciting art exhibitions, many of which are hosted in museums and galleries that are surrounded by nature.<\/span>\u00a0This means that you can experience beautiful art, both inside and outside!<\/span><\/p>\n

Here is a selection of exhibitions that are ongoing throughout the spring, here on Royal Djurg\u00e5rden:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Angus Fairhurst Absolut Art Collection<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The Museum of Spirits<\/strong>
\n23rd October 2019-13th April 2020<\/strong><\/p>\n

Angus Fairhurst (1966-2008) belonged to an influential generation that became the phenomenon known as the Young British Artists, or YBAs. As a group, they fought against the market-driven attitude of the 1990s. Fairhurst was a central figure, expressing himself with brilliant, absurd, somewhat melancholy humour. His work has been described as a labyrinth of references to Western art history, but it is equally an exploration of the dubious ideals of advertising and luxury consumerism. Spritmuseum\u2019s own Absolut Art Collection includes\u00a0Absolut Fairhurst\u00a0from 1994.<\/p>\n

The Experimental Self: Edvard Munch’s Photography<\/strong>
\n<\/b><\/h2>\n

The Thiel Gallery
\n<\/span>8th February-31st May 2020\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Edvard Munch (1863-1944) was one of the first artists to take \u201cselfies.\u201d He pursued photography as an experimental medium and himself as an experimental subject. He explored the dynamics of layered imagery; unexpected areas of blank, disunified, or undefined form; and shadows that replace living bodies.<\/span> The exhibition gives you an insight into this lesser-known side of the artist.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Silent Beauty \u2013 Nordic and East Asian Interaction<\/span><\/b>
\n<\/b><\/h2>\n

Prince Eugen\u2019s Waldemarsudde<\/strong>
\n15th\u00a0February-31st\u00a0May 2020\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Silent<\/span> Beauty \u2013 Nordic and <\/span>East<\/span> Asian<\/span> Interaction<\/span> is a fusion <\/span>of<\/span> Nordic and <\/span>East<\/span> Asian<\/span> aesthetics<\/span> from the 1900s, <\/span>with<\/span> a special focus on the <\/span>years<\/span> following<\/span> the Second World <\/span>War<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>The <\/span>exhibition<\/span> features <\/span>paintings<\/span>, <\/span>graphics<\/span>, <\/span>ceramics<\/span> and <\/span>textiles<\/span> by <\/span>Japanese<\/span>, Swedish and <\/span>Finnish<\/span> artists. <\/span>Geometric<\/span> shapes<\/span>, <\/span>refined<\/span> colours<\/span> and <\/span>fabrics<\/span> and <\/span>textures<\/span> are<\/span> recurrent<\/span> characteristics<\/span> amongst<\/span> the <\/span>works<\/span> on display.\u2060<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Lena <\/span><\/b>Cronqvist<\/span><\/b>
\n<\/b><\/h2>\n

Prince Eugen\u2019s Waldemarsudde<\/strong>
\n7th\u00a0March-27th\u00a0September 2020\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

With a career spanning nearly 60 years, Lena <\/span>Cronqvist<\/span> has established herself as one of Sweden\u2019s most prominent artists. <\/span>Her imagery embraces existential themes, such as love, childhood, motherhood, loneliness and death, and she often uses herself as a model. <\/span>Cronqvist\u2019s<\/span> artistic practice is profoundly personal, yet equally inclusive and universal.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>This thematic exhibition includes several recent paintings that are being exhibited publicly for the first time.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Market Art Fair 2020<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Market Art Fair is the leading contemporary art fair in the Nordic region, initiated in 2006 by galleries representing the Nordic countries: Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. During the fair, selected galleries showcase an exclusive selection of the most interesting art on the Nordic scene, focusing on solo projects as well as carefully curated presentations.<\/p>\n
