DAVID SHRIGLEY \u2013 EXHIBITION OF GIANT INFLATABLE SWAN-THINGS<\/p>\n
One of Great Britain\u2019s most renowned artists, David Shrigley, presents\u00a0new show\u00a0at\u00a0Spritmuseum\u00a0in\u00a0Sweden this autumn. His\u00a0Exhibition of Giant Inflatable Swan-things\u00a0will be an installation created exclusively for the museum gallery, opening on 27 September. Nothing is quite as it seems in Shrigley\u2019s universe. The laws of physics are suspended and the everyday world is distorted, revealing a rare and mordant sense of humour. \u201cWe have been eager to host an exhibition by\u00a0David\u00a0ever since\u00a0Spritmuseum\u00a0opened in\u00a02012,\u201d\u00a0says\u00a0Mia Sundberg,\u00a0curator of the museum\u2019s collection. \u201cI\u2019m especially pleased that we are presenting a new\u00a0three-dimensional\u00a0installation. We don\u2019t want to reveal too much, but the title of the show provides a pretty good hint.\u201d<\/p>\n
Simple pen and ink drawings with handwritten slogans and puns and a visual idiom reminiscent of comic books and caricatures\u00a0form\u00a0the\u00a0foundation\u00a0of\u00a0David\u00a0Shrigley\u2019s\u00a0art.\u00a0He also works in sculpture, large installations, animation,\u00a0painting,\u00a0photography and\u00a0music.\u00a0With conceptual obstinacy and a satirical\u00a0undertone,\u00a0Shrigley\u00a0addresses themes that mirror everyday life and the ordinary elements of human\u00a0behaviour, from\u00a0shopping\u00a0lists to snippets of\u00a0overheard\u00a0conversations. It\u00a0is\u00a0inexplicably, madly funny.<\/p>\n
