The Nordic Museum turns 150 years old and celebrates all of 2023 by looking forward and backward in time. Sunday, March 26, is the children’s big 150th birthday party. The children’s magical day offers divination and the presenter Erik Ekstrand tests life hacks from the past from the museum’s most secret archives.

– On this day we celebrate the museum by traveling 150 years back in time. In addition to divination and life hacks with Erik Ekstrand from people in the past, you can try life as a child on a farm in the 1890s. Or step straight into the children’s history through a magical portal in the award-winning Time Vault. Anything can happen and everything is real in a museum where magic happens and time is backwards, says Lena Bergqvist, audience producer at the Nordic museum.

Are you one of those who dream of getting on board the Vasa ship? Royalty and Nobel laureates have been allowed to do so, but rarely the museum’s other visitors. Now it becomes possible for anyone – through 42 short films.

Boarding Vasa is a big dream for many, but the ship is too fragile for that to be allowed. Through the films that will be released on March 10 on the Vasa Museum’s website and on the museum’s Instagram account, the dream is almost coming true. Through the films, you can see what Vasa looks like inside.

In the film On board Vasa, you get to follow the Vasa Museum’s research director Fred Hocker, who shows all the decks on the ship. Fred explains how places and features were meant to be used.

– It’s really fun to be able to show the whole ship, even the parts that are always hidden from visitors, says Fred Hocker, director of research at the Vasa Museum.

In each episode, Fred Hocker shows a space on the ship and tells about what it is, how it was used and what interesting details may remain.

An important aspect of the film is to document how the ship looks like today. In the near future, a new support system for Vasa will be developed – both inside and outside – and it will not be possible to access all spaces in the same way as today. During 2022, the Vasa Museum has therefore carried out extensive documentation work in photography and film on board the Vasa. During the work, the idea of also producing another type of film was born. A film that takes the visitor on board.
