Andy Goldsworthy to Create New Work for Princess Estelle’s Sculpture Park

04/11/2026

British artist Andy Goldsworthy has been named Artist of the Year 2027 for Princess Estelle’s Sculpture Park on Royal Djurgården. During the year, he will create Stone Field, a site-specific work at Ståthållarängen, near Rosendal garden.

The work consists of a traditional dry-stone wall, built by hand using Swedish granite, enclosing an exposed section of bedrock. The result is an open space where visitors can step inside and experience the landscape in a new way. Through Stone Field, Goldsworthy seeks to reveal the bedrock beneath the grass and trees, highlighting the connection between the forces of nature and human craftsmanship.

For more than five decades, Goldsworthy has explored the relationship between people, nature and the landscape through sculpture and installations. His work is characterised by the use of natural materials and a sensitivity to the unique qualities of each location.

Stone Field will be the eighth work in Princess Estelle’s Sculpture Park and Goldsworthy’s first permanent public artwork in the Nordic region. The work also draws inspiration from Royal Djurgården’s tradition of dry-stone walls, which have been a distinctive feature of the landscape since the 18th and 19th centuries.

With Stone Field, a new meeting place will take shape on Royal Djurgården, open to everyone to visit and explore.

Stone Field will be inaugurated by H.K.H Prince Daniel on  2:nd of June 2027  at 1 p.m. Everybody is invited to attend.
