Blockhusudden’s Lighthouse

AGA lighthouse from 1905

The lighthouse at Blockhusudden lies just off the coast and was installed in 1905. It became an AGA lighthouse in 1912 after Gustaf Dalén’s invention, a sun valve, was installed. Gustaf Dalén was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1912 for his invention of the sun valve. He became completely blind after an accident in which acetylene gas exploded in his face. Dalén’s inventions; the Dalén flasher, the sun valve and the automatic mantle exchange, formed the foundation of the AGA company and its AGA lighthouses.

AGA lighthouses can function without maintenance for up to a year.
