Audio guide: The Vasa Walk

The Vasa Walk takes you on a journey through the warship Vasa’s history — in the very places where it actually unfolded. Together with Fred Hocker, Director of Research at the Vasa Museum, you will travel 400 years back in time to Stockholm in 1628 and discover the story of one of the world’s most famous ships.

The walk begins outside the Vasa Museum, continues through the Djurgårdsstaden area and ends on the island of Beckholmen. Through sound, music, historical reenactments and visual elements, the places and people of Vasa’s story come to life around you.

Download the “Promenad” app, bring your headphones, and make sure your phone is fully charged. Then, simply follow the instructions in the app and start walking! The walk covers approximately 5,000 steps.

The Vasa Walk is part of the Support Vasa project — the Vasa Museum’s largest preservation initiative since the salvaging and conservation of the ship in the 1960s. This audio guide is a collaboration between the Vasa Museum, the “Promenad” app, and KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, with funding from the Torsten Söderberg Foundation.
