Sámi National Day

February 6th is Sámi National Day and Skansen is celebrating it with a whole theme week around the holiday! Bring the whole family and celebrate the rich history and culture.

National Day Celebration:

National Day Ceremony

Celebrate the Sámi National Day with us! During the National Day ceremony, we will be playing yoik and music and singing the national anthem together in Saemien Sijte. The ceremony lasts about 30 minutes.

More activities:

Saemien Sijte:
In Skansen’s Sámi area Saemien Sijte you can visit the Såkhie family, an urban Sámi family with a holiday home in Jämtland. Try Gáhkko baking, take part in reindeer talk and much more! During the weekend of February 8-9 there will be a sale of North and South Sámi crafts between 11:00-15:00.

Bragehallen:
In Bragehallen the children’s theatre: Midwinter’s Tale is shown. The tale is told with the help of circus, yoik, song and music. An exciting tale that is about the wild land high up in the north where the sun is not seen for several weeks. (NOTE: the show is not in english)

Skogens hus:
Welcome to crafts with Sami symbols at Skogens hus. Paint the Sámi flag, a kolt or braid a key ring in Sami colors. Do you know what colors are in the Sámi flag and what the different colors symbolize?
