Ghosts and Vikings, space adventures, mysteries, creativity, theatre, art and Halloween. During the autumn break, Djurgården comes alive with activities for both young and old.
Here at Royal Djurgården Visitor Center we have gathered some of the highlights of the autumn break. Choose according to age and interests, or combine several experiences for a full day on Djurgården.

Space, technology & the secrets of the sea

Sjöhistoriska museet – create and play
Build, craft and create with a maritime theme in the Ruskpricken creative workshop. For the youngest visitors, Blubb is a playful underwater world for children aged 0–6. Free admission for children and young people up to the age of 19.

During the autumn break, Sjöhistoriska also fills with sea ghosts, spirits and mysterious tales from the sea. Join a mildly spooky family tour featuring old legends and sailors’ superstitions, listen to ghostly stories and set off on a creepy quiz walk through the museum. Keep your eyes open – something might be hiding among the ships and objects.

Tekniska museet – space adventures
Reach for the stars! During the autumn break, space takes centre stage. Meet researchers, build and test your own space rocket and try space food. At Wisdome, the whole family can also enjoy immersive experiences that take you far beyond Djurgården.

Ghosts, monsters & mysteries

Skansen – autumn break & Halloween
Skeleton school, spooky stories, animal encounters and Halloween await at Skansen. On selected days, parts of the park are transformed with trick-or-treating, pumpkins, music and mildly spooky experiences for the whole family.
Free admission for children aged 0–15. A free child ticket must be booked.

The Viking Museum – Autumn break among Draugr and Monsters
Creatures from the Viking Age come to life! Go monster hunting, meet a draugr, a Viking Age zombie, and encounter a seeress, a völva.
Free admission for children under 15 when accompanied by an adult from 24 October.

Vrak – Museum of Wrecks – autumn break adventures
Set out on a ghost hunt through a darkened museum with a flashlight and take part in a major LEGO® marathon featuring marine archaeology-inspired building. There are also family tours and fascinating stories from the bottom of the Baltic Sea.
Free admission for children and young people aged 0–18.

Nordiska museet – Night at Nordiska museet
When the museum closes and the lights go out, the adventure begins. Join a dramatic and spooky evening tour among creatures from folklore and Swedish mythology.
27–28 October. From age 6. Advance booking and timed tickets required.

Gröna Lund – Halloween
Pumpkins, haunted houses, characters and rides – all of Gröna Lund transforms for Halloween. Younger visitors can enjoy gentle scares and child-friendly areas, while braver guests can test much scarier experiences, including Sekten: Demonernas återkomst.

Puzzles, missions & discovery

Polismuseet – be a police officer for a while
Autumn break challenges, fingerprints, police equipment and family tours await throughout week 44. Don’t miss Polisliv, where children can, among other things, sit in a real police car.

Every day during week 44:
12.30 & 14.30 – Polis, Polis: Ask questions and learn more about police equipment.
13.30 & 15.30 – Tjuv och Polis: Look, guess and feel police objects from the past. The tours are suitable for children aged 5 and over. Tickets are available from reception.
Free admission for children and young people under 19.

Vasamuseet – The Mystery Game Undergång
Vasa and Titanic meet in an exciting time-travel mystery. Find clues and solve puzzles before the ships sink! The museum also offers family trails and other hands-on activities.
From age 10. Advance booking required. Free admission for children and young people aged 0–18.

Riksidrottsmuseet – autumn break with movement & sport
Discover the history of sport, try interactive activities and visit Solskensolympiaden – a journey back in time to the 1912 Olympic Games in Stockholm.
27 October–1 November, 11 am–4 pm. Free admission for children and young people up to and including age 19.
More details about the autumn break activities will be announced by the museum later.

Paint, create & make a film

Prins Eugens Waldemarsudde – a colourful autumn break
Be inspired by the new exhibition Den underbara färgen – Göteborgskoloristerna and create your own art. During the autumn break workshops on 27 and 29 October, the studio will be filled with colourful painting, while 28 October features Läslovspoesi, where children can write poems and paint with flowing acrylic colours. Advance booking is required for the autumn break activities.

Thielska Galleriet – make your own film
Take inspiration from art and try your hand at mobile filmmaking in a creative workshop for children aged 7–12, inspired by the aesthetic of Lars von Trier.
Advance registration required.

Snus- och Tändsticksmuseum – The Matchbox Workshop
Small boxes become little works of art! Take inspiration from historic matchbox labels and design your own label in the Matchbox Workshop.
Admission is included with a Skansen ticket.

Stories, theatre & play for younger children

Junibacken – a gently spooky reading break
Theatre, storytelling, play and the Story Train await at Junibacken. The reading break offers a gently spooky programme for the whole family.
12 October–1 November.

Etnografiska museet – Story Worlds
Step into a colourful world filled with stories, myths and fairy tales from different parts of the world. A playful exhibition particularly well suited to younger children.

Exhibitions & experiences for the whole family

The autumn break is also a perfect opportunity to discover some of Djurgården’s major exhibitions – many of them are just as appealing to curious children and teenagers as they are to adults.

ABBA The Museum – NEW! Dancing Queen 50 years
On 11 October, a brand-new exhibition opens celebrating 50 years of one of ABBA’s most beloved songs. Follow Dancing Queen from its recording and legendary performance at the Royal Swedish Opera in 1976 to worldwide success and a song that continues to bring generations together.

Vasamuseet – James Cameron: Challenging the Deep
Follow filmmaker and explorer James Cameron into the depths of the ocean. Here, deep-sea exploration and filmmaking come together through material and objects connected to, among other things, Titanic and Avatar.
Free admission for children and young people aged 0–18.

Vrak – Vikings Before Vikings – last chance!
The autumn break is the last opportunity to see the unique finds from Salme in Estonia and discover the story of the people who lived and died before the beginning of the traditional Viking Age.
The exhibition closes on 1 November. Free admission for ages 0–18.

Etnografiska museet – Yokai: Japanese Spirits
Meet monsters, spirits and other supernatural beings from Japanese folklore, and discover how they live on in today’s manga, anime and popular culture. Younger visitors can also enjoy Story Worlds.
Free admission for children and young people under 19.

Prins Eugens Waldemarsudde – Den underbara färgen
Discover the colourful world of the Gothenburg Colourists with bold hues, light and expressive painting. A great choice to combine with the museum’s autumn break workshop.

Thielska Galleriet – On the Shoulders of Others. Lars von Trier curates
Film meets art as director Lars von Trier explores works from the Thielska Galleriet collection.

Konsthall 16 – Mustang Queens
Photographer Nadja Hallström portrays encounters between people and horses, from a stable in Queens, New York, to the wild mustangs of the USA.

Riksidrottsmuseet – Solskensolympiaden
Travel back in time to the 1912 Stockholm Olympics and discover the people, competitions and stories behind the historic Games.
Free admission for children and young people up to and including age 19.

PREKS and Tekniska museet/Wisdome – Roof of Reflection
Step into an immersive 360° experience where art, light, music and science come together. The work is inspired by Cristina Iglesias’ art on Djurgården and was created in collaboration with Prinsessan Estelles Kulturstiftelse.

For children from approx. ages 5–6: Polismuseet, The Viking Museum, Halloween at Skansen and Night at Nordiska museet.
For children from approx. ages 7–9: Thielska’s film workshop, Tekniska museet, family activities at Vasamuseet and Riksidrottsmuseet.
From approx. age 10 and for teenagers: The Mystery Game Undergång, Vrak, Yokai, Wisdome and Gröna Lund’s scarier Halloween experiences.
