What’s happening in August at Royal Djurgården?
02/08/2024Now that late summer is approaching, Royal Djurgården continues to flourish. Discover Djurgården’s fantastic offerings and all the wonderful summer events. The month of August features Pride celebrations, Olympic crafts, the Stockholm Culture Festival, jazz evenings, and of course, daily guided tours inside several of our museums. Below, we have gathered a bit of everything happening at Djurgården in August:
August 1-5
STOCKHOLM PRIDE: During Stockholm Pride week, there are many colorful activities to engage in. Come and celebrate love and community at Djurgården.
July 30 – August 4
Experience Pride at the Maritime Museum where they offer guided tours with a maritime Pride theme.
August 1
Hetero in Art – Queer Perspectives at the Thiel Gallery. Join art historian Emil Åkerö for a tour challenging heterosexual perspectives from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
August 3
Come and dance and sing along during the Hooja concert at Solliden Stage at Skansen. Gates open at 5:30 PM, concert from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
July 26 to August 11
The right place to get into the Olympic spirit is, of course the National Sports Museum, which will have Olympic-themed days from July 26 to August 11. You can come and craft, walk the Olympic trail, or perhaps challenge your friends in various sports. The museum’s exhibitions also feature Olympic stories and artifacts. Everything from clothes from opening ceremonies to a retrospective on the Stockholm Olympics of 1912. There’s something for everyone! A plus is that admission to the Sports Museum is always free for people of all ages.
August 6
Allsång at Skansen with Pernilla Wahlgren. This evening, the Allsång stage is visited by beloved artists: Miss-Li, Simon Superti, Dream Girls, Anji & Lisa Ekdahl, Christer Sjögren.
August 6
With one of the world’s greatest songs of all time, “Smoke on the Water,” and a career spanning over seven decades and more than 100 million albums sold, Deep Purple has an impressive résumé, to say the least. On August 6 at 8:00 PM, they will take the main stage at Gröna Lund and deliver a show that will be remembered for a long time.
August 6-8
Round off the summer break at Prince Eugen’s Waldemarsudde where an art course for children (ages 10-12) will be held. For three mornings, they will explore color theory, painting, and modeling with inspiration from the museum’s exhibitions and beautiful park. No prior knowledge is required. August 13
The last Allsång at Skansen of the year with Pernilla Wahlgren, you really don’t want to miss it! This evening, the Allsång stage is visited by beloved artists: Miriam Bryant, Orup, and Isak Danielsson.
August 14
For one a day in August, you get the chance to dive into the world of mermaids at the Maritime Museum. There will be both storytime and dramatized family tours with a mermaid theme. The day concludes with an outdoor movie night at the Maritime Museum Café & Bar where both “The Little Mermaid” and “Göta Canal – Who Pulled the Plug?” will be shown. August 15-17 and 24
Ride on a historic warship in the wake of the ship Vasa, a maritime historical boat tour in Stockholm’s inner archipelago. Now you have the chance to board and ride the patrol boat Sprängaren. It’s an hour-long journey on Stockholm’s waters with the world’s oldest and only remaining military steamship from World War I! August 16
Damian Marley, multiple Grammy award winner and the youngest son of the legendary Bob Marley, will perform on the main stage at Gröna Lund, just like his father Bob Marley did in the 80s. At 8:00 PM.
August 16
Skroten invites you to a seafood evening with live music by the fantastic Frida Braxell. With a seafood buffet that includes everything and a little more, you can eat your fill of Norwegian lobsters from Smögen, smoked & fresh shrimp from Koster, Skroten’s homemade Västerbotten pie, shrimp salad, primed salad, freshly baked bread, almond potato salad & delicious sauces. August 7-18
There are few things that beat fresh Swedish crayfish when they are at their best. Between August 7-18, there is a crayfish menu that simply cannot be missed. August 21
World-renowned artist Sam Smith comes to Gröna Lund, at 8:00 PM he takes the main stage, it’s going to be an evening you DO NOT want to miss!
August 7, 21, and 28
Warm welcome to the Museum of Ethnography! On 3 Wednesday evenings in August, the Ethnographic Museum in collaboration with Stallet Världens Musik organizes beautiful concerts in the park. There you can experience music, hammocks, and birdsong in the evening sun. The artists playing in August are: the 7th Siri Karlsson & Yasmine El Baramawy, the 21st Irrbloss and the 28th Filip Jers & Emil Ernebro. From 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM.
August 24
Tough Viking is Sweden’s first obstacle course race, inspired by Swedish military elite forces including the Coastal Rangers, Paratroopers, and Clearance Divers. Those who want to compete will have the chance to run through extreme challenges that will test your strength and endurance.
