5 ways to explore Djurgården!


At Royal Djurgården there is plenty to discover for Stockholmers and visitors alike. If you live on or near Djurgården then perhaps now is the time to visit a part of the island you’ve never been to before. Or if you’re just visiting Stockholm, you’ll soon see that there are many enjoyable ways of getting around this big, green and beautiful island!

Here are 5 ways to explore Djurgärden during the summer and autumn!

1. Royal Djurgården Tour

Climb aboard Europe’s biggest (and coolest) sightseeing train!

Royal Djurgården Tour is a Hop-On Hop-Off train that takes you to 11 of the most popular places on Djurgården. The train departs from Nordiska museet.

2. By kayak, canoe or pedal boat

To the right of Djurgården bridge you’ll find Sjöcaféet, where you can rent a kayak or canoe and discover Djurgården from the water. They also have pedal boats, which are perfect for the whole family!

3. Ocean Bus

Is it a bus? Or is it a boat? Well, it’s actually both!

This unique tour takes you along the Djurgården canal and shore, both on land and in the water – but on the same amphibious bus!

The starting point for the tour is at Strömgatan (between the Royal Swedish Opera and Grand Hotel).

4. By bike

One of the best ways to discover Djurgården is by bike, and you can hire one at Djurgårdsboden or Sjöcaféet.

You can pick up free cycle maps and maps of Djurgården from Royal Djurgården Visitor Center, which is to the right of Djurgården bridge as you arrive.

5. Strömma Sightseeing Boat Tour

The ‘Royal Canal Tour’ takes you through the beautiful Djurgården canal and past many of the historical buildings and green areas on the island. It departs from Strömkajen in Stockholm’s city centre.
