Midsummer celebration at Djurgården
12/06/2025Midsummer, along with Christmas, is one of the most popular holidays in Sweden and it aims to mark the summer solstice. It is a day when the Swedish people celebrate summer with song, dance, food and drink. Whether you are experiencing Midsummer for the first time or have celebrated since childhood, Djurgården is a magical place. Here you can dance around the midsummer pole, make wreaths, eat herring and everything else that goes with it.
Skansen
Skansen has celebrated Midsummer since the 1890s and this year it will be celebrated for three whole days between June 20-22. The celebration begins on June 20 (midsummer eve) and the day begins with, among other things, midsummer wreaths, markets as well as dancing around the midsummer pole, the pole is raised at 11:00 a.m. There will be a midsummer concert Symbio in the magnificent Seglora church.

Tasty midsummer at Djurgården’s restaurants
An important part of all holidays is of course the food, and several of the restaurants on Djurgården serve traditional Midsummer menus. Both long-established Villa Godthem and Ulla Winbladh and Newer Stockholm 1897 and restaurant Eld offer all the flavors of the holiday with a personal twist. The cozy atmosphere and delicious flavors are the perfect way to celebrate.

Take a trip on the water
Many of the Archipelago’s beautiful islands have midsummer celebrations where you will find midsummer bars, traditional games and dancing, as well as restaurants with midsummer food on the menu. The Viking Museum
Midsummer is originally a tradition that has its roots in old Nordic religion and mythology. The Viking Museum organizes a Midsummer Blot at 15:00 outside the museum to celebrate Midsummer in an old Norse way and honor the gods. Blot is a way of expressing affinity with the Gods and the ancestors.
