In the castle-like building of Nordiska museet you can find their restaurant, where a big part of their sustainable work is being environmentally friendly and maintaining high quality in everything they serve. They offer home cooked, typical Swedish food and they also have a large selection of home baked bread and pastries from their own bakery. You can also enjoy a cup of coffee or a glass of wine after your visit to the museum, or why not enjoy a weekday afternoon tea, which is served with a variety of teas.
Restauration Gubbhyllan is part of Skansen, the world’s first open-air museum, tasked with presenting the whole of Sweden in a single place.
Gubbhyllan echoes that mission, aspiring to present all Sweden’s food. We are devotees of the traditional Swedish cuisine, with all its pickling and preserving methods.
Our raw materials vary, depending on the season of the year, and come from all the geographic regions of Sweden – the sea, the coast, the plainlands, the forests, the lakes and the mountains. At Gubbhyllan we often highlight raw materials which, despite longstanding use in Sweden, tend to be overlooked.
The name Gubbhyllan (literally, “Old Men’s Shelf”) alludes to the guests who would sit on the terrace over the veranda, relishing their punch and cigars. The history of the place goes right back to 1810, when what is now the core building of the present establishment was first erected on Djurgården.
Step in to an historical environment with a rustic interior and homely atmosphere, and enjoy traditional Swedish cuisine. Here, you can always expect delicious food and pastries with great quality as a priority. The Tavern is part of Skansen’s Town quarters; the view from the house gives you a lovely glance over the old houses from one side and the iconic horizon of Stockholm on the other.
In the Tavern’s loft can you find out more about the house, from photographs, letters and paintings of previous owners. Enjoy our drop-in à la carte menu or book the loft for a lunch, dinner or buffet. If you’d like to stay a little longer, you can take part in an activity at Skansen or a drink tasting with Krogen Stora Gungan’s sommelier.
The Vasa Museum’s Restaurant is located next to the water with a terrace which overlooks Saltsjön and Kastellholmen. It’s easy to combine your visit to the Vasa Museum with a well-made meal at The Vasa Museum’s Restaurant.
A first-rate restaurant for visitors to the museum, which serves modern Swedish cuisine with local and preferably ecological products. For those who want to enjoy a Swedish Fika there are delicious pastries and sandwiches.
The Vasa Museum’s Restaurant also has a unique environment for major dinner parties and events next to the Vasa ship.
Restaurant Eld – Nordic Gastronomy on Djurgården
Under the leadership of head chef Irene Frantzen, Restaurant Eld offers a contemporary Nordic cuisine with a distinct identity, where ingredients, technique, and expression interact in balance.
The menu follows the seasons and is based on carefully selected ingredients from forest, sea, and nearby producers. Through fire, smoke, and fermentation, flavors are developed with depth, precision, and complexity.
Here, a high gastronomic standard meets a personal experience, where accessibility and genuine hospitality are at the forefront.
Restaurant Eld is located within The Viking Museum and is open to all guests. No museum ticket is required.
At Rosendal’s Garden you can see and learn about the biodynamic cultivation of vegetables, flowers and fruit. You can also buy plants and accessories, visit the exhibitions, take a course, or just enjoy yourself on a picnic blanket under an apple tree.
The café serves lunch, sandwiches and cakes, made using ecological seasonal ingredients. They bake the bread and cakes on sale in the café and shop by hand in wood fired stone ovens. Stiftelsen Rosendals Trädgård is a non-profit organisation; all profits are reinvested into the operations.
With a beautiful view of Djurgårdsbrunnsviken and the boats on Strandvägen, restaurant Djurgårdsbron is one of Stockholm’s largest and most pleasant cafés with outdoor seating, and full licensing rights.
We offer a wide range of lunches, à la carte meals, pizzas and light snacks. You can also rent cycles, canoes (both kayak and Canadian) and pedal boats here, suitable for a tour in the beautiful Royal national city park. Visit restaurant Djurgårdsbrons website for more information.
Wärdshuset Ulla Winbladh, whose name derives from the muse of Swedish troubadour, Bellman, is well-known for its top-quality Swedish food. Everyone is welcome here – royalty, families with children, and folk just strolling around Djurgården – even dogs can quench their thirst on our outdoor terrace. We offer children’s portions to our youngest guests, at children’s prices, of course.
Coming in is somewhat like coming home. The fundamental idea of an inn is that it provides personal service, every day, all through the year. For better, for worse – we hold weddings and funerals here. We always serve veal on Sundays with cream sauce and homemade jelly, while we celebrate special occasions throughout the year: Easter, Father’s Day, Mother’s Day, the start of the crayfish season, St. Martin’s Day and Xmas.
Nils Emil Ahlin, one of Sweden’s most famous and loved innkeepers, took over Ulla Winbladh in 1992 with the ambition to lift everyday fare to unimagined heights. This is exactly what he did, and has subsequently received the King’s Medal for his work to preserve Swedish culinary culture. It is in this culinary tradition and spirit that Ulla Winbladh is still operated, now with chef Rasmus Axelsson and restaurateur Pelle Johansson at the helm.
The five kiosks just outside the Skansen entrance have everything you need.
The kiosks:
Souvenirs and balloons
Confectionery, ice cream and fizzy drinks
Café
Ice cream
Hot snacks
Villa Godthem has become one of Stockholm’s most historic and well-known restaurants. The house is located steps away from Djurgårdsbron and was completed in 1874, but then as a private residence for the opera soloist Carl Johan Uddman, before it was turned into an inn in 1897. The house was named after Carl Johan Uddman walked home from the opera one evening, and when he was standing in the vestibule, he exclaimed: “I have gone home!” There and then the name Villa Godthem was born.
Joiner’s joy in the house is found in the dining room, on the veranda and in the garden café, and is a large part of Villa Godthem’s history. It is a love for classic cuisine and tasty Swedish dishes that represents the heritage and the heart of our business. Here you can enjoy a good meal with friends and family in a beautiful environment. Our most well-known dish is our “plank steak”, which has become one of our signature dishes since it first made an entrance on our à la carte menu in the mid-1950s. We have been serving guests for over a hundred years, and at Villa Godthem it is equally important to have a meal that is well put together and friendly service. Are you a large group who are having a party, dinner or wedding? Then you can book our club room and chambre séparée. We look forward to welcoming you!
