Visit Junibacken and get a free entrance to Gröna Lund

At Djurgården, collaboration doesn’t feel like something you have to think about, it’s simply there, quietly making your day smoother and more rewarding.

Right now, it’s especially evident in the connection between Junibacken and Gröna Lund. You might start your day in the calm of storytelling and imagination, then naturally continue on to laughter, music, and the thrill of rides. The day flows effortlessly, without much need for planning.

At the same time, there’s a certain feeling in the air. The exhibition “Stig in!”, inspired by the worlds of Pija Lindenbaum, is in its final day. Knowing it’s about to end makes the experience feel a little more meaningful, like you want to linger just a bit longer. And inside the theatre barn, the stories continue to come alive, not least through Pippi Långstrump, who always reminds us how easy it is to be swept away.

That’s what makes Djurgården so special—it’s not just each place on its own, but how they come together. You move between settings, between moods, and before you know it, it’s become a full day that stays with you longer than expected.

Gröna Lund opens April 25

On April 25 at 12:00, Gröna Lund opens for its 143rd season and this year, there’s an extra sense that something special awaits. From the moment you arrive, it’s clear: more experiences, more energy, and more reasons to stay a little longer.

For thrill-seekers, there are two new highlights to discover. Spindeln delivers bouncing, spinning, high-speed excitement that quickly gets your heart racing, while K-pop Bumpers adds a playful twist where bumper cars meet music and laughter.

At the heart of the park, you’ll also find K-street a colorful, temporary addition inspired by K-pop, available only during the 2026 season. Here, you can explore new flavors, try your hand at games, grab something quick to eat, and maybe even spin the prize wheel.

Food is very much part of the experience this year. The selection has expanded with everything from sushi burritos and Korean dishes to pizza slices and snacks that fit perfectly between rides.

As always, music plays a central role. With over 60 concerts throughout the season, featuring artists like Jack White, The Cardigans, and Thomas Stenström, there are plenty of evenings worth planning for.

For families, the beloved Gnuttarna return with new shows, disco events, and activities designed to give younger visitors their own memorable experience.

In short, whether you come for the rides, the food, the music, or simply the atmosphere, this is a season that invites you to come back, perhaps more than once.

Christmas Markets 2025

Skansen Christmas Market – the Warm Heart of Tradition

Foto: Skansen

At Bollnästorget inside Skansen, the winter air fills with the scent of mulled wine and roasted almonds. Skansen’s Christmas market, which has been held since 1903, is a tradition in itself – a place where past and present meet through dance, music, crafts, and community. As you wander between the stalls, you can feel the presence of history: hand-dipped candles, wooden crafts, wool products, delicacies, and locally produced foods turn the market into a living cultural heritage. At the dance floor, folk dance groups and a Christmas orchestra gather daily – a welcoming and warm feature that attracts both children and adults to dance around the Christmas tree.

Nordic Museum Christmas Market – Sustainable Elegance in the Great Hall

Nordiska museets julgran

A completely different kind of Christmas magic awaits as you step into the Nordic Museum on 7 December 2025. In the museum’s magnificent Great Hall, exhibitors focusing on upcycling, vintage, and fine craftsmanship gather, carefully curated by decorator Gustav Broström.

Here, the gifts are not only beautiful – they carry stories. Antique dealers, second-hand specialists, and artisans present their finds and creations, turning each table into a tribute to care, sustainability, and conscious consumption.

At the same time, the museum’s large Christmas tree is adorned with unique, handcrafted decorations made from stars, cookie cutters, and metal wire – a tribute to recycling and artistic expression. The restaurant and museum shop offer Advent treats and thoughtfully selected gifts, perfect for those who wish to celebrate a conscious and inspiring Christmas.

The World Christmas Market at the Maritime Museum – Scents, Rhythms and Traditions from the Horizon

At the Maritime Museum, the Christmas market takes you on a journey across the seas. On 29–30 November, the quays and the museum courtyard are filled with stalls offering crafts, food, and culture from around the world.

Here you will find everything from Baltic handicrafts to flavours and decorations rooted in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. The music, dance, and rhythms create a warm, global Christmas celebration – in the midst of Stockholm’s winter cold.

The World Christmas Market is not just a marketplace, but a cultural hub where different traditions shine side by side, and where you can discover new perspectives on what Christmas can be.

Royal Djurgården welcomes Monet’s Garden

On October 6th, we will welcome ‘Monet’s Garden – The Immersive Experience’ to Royal Djurgården. Visitors are invited to an visually and acoustically impressive experience. Claude Monet’s famous masterpieces are displayed in a new way, in a temporary exhibition hall near the Maritime Museum. The latest technology enables visitors to interact with the art themselves.

From New York to Royal Djurgården

Monet’s Garden – The Immersive Experience has had great success throughout Europe and most recently in New York, where the exhibition was extended due to high interest. Now, Royal Djurgården welcomes Monet’s Garden and is delighted to offer its guests access to beautiful art once again.

Learn more about the experience

Monet’s Garden consists of three experience rooms – the studio, the artist’s mythical garden in Normandy and finally the exhibition room, where Claude Monet’s works are brought to new life. The finale is an amazing experience as Monet’s water lilies take over the room, and visitors are surrounded by one of the master’s most beloved motifs.

The exhibition opens Friday, October 6, and runs until Sunday, January 21, 2024.

More art at Royal Djurgården

We want to take this opportunity to remind all art lovers that there is a lot of beautiful art to experience at several actors on Djurgården, including:  Liljevalchs konsthall, Prins Eugens Waldemarsudde, Konsthall 16 at Riksidrottsmuseum, Spritmuseum och Thielska galleriet. If you’re walking around Djurgården, don’t miss visiting our beautiful sculpture park, Princess Estelle’s Sculpture Park, where earlier this year, we were enriched with the unique artwork ‘Untold’ by Charlotte Gyllenhammar.

New Horror Attraction Awaits at på Gröna Lund

Gröna Lund will open up its gates once again to welcome visitors to their Halloween season. This year a completely new experience awaits: Obscura! Locked inside a dark room where the lines between nightmares and reality are blurry, ask yourself, can you remain in the chair? Welcome between October 13th and November 5th!

The name OBSCURA is the same as the little girl who tells her story to the visitors and slowly turn their nightmares into reality. Once you’ve stepped inside the creepy room and the iron doors are bolted shut from outside there is nowhere to run as you become immersed in total darkness. Using sounds and special effects the experience blurs the lines between imagination and reality. The attraction is unique and the only one of its kind. If you have nyctophobia or claustrophobia the experience will certainly be memorable. (Rec. age 13)

For the younger visitors there is also a new less frightning experience to try – The Witch’s Trail. Those that wander down the train will encounter suprises such as glittering lights, shadows and pumpkins with terrible dental hygien. The Small Area of Gröna Lund (Lilla Området) is suitable for young visitors and families that have less of a tolerance for scary things but still enjoy the magical feeling of Halloween.

In addition to this the park offers fire shows and parades, ghost hunting for the kids, several haunted houses and incredible decorations one can enjoy while strolling through the areas. Raise your blood pressure with rides or jump scares, the park can be enjoyed during the day or evening pass and regardless of the hour of day it is guaranteed to be a fun visit!

If you book your tickets ahead of time during August and September they will give you 100 kr discount on each ticket bought. Read more on their website

My Day at Royal Djurgården!

Royal Djurgården is the perfect place in Stockholm to experience nature, culture, food and lots of other fun stuff! As a working tourist information officer here at Royal Djurgården Visitor Center, I am lucky enough to experience much of what the island has to offer. Below are therefore some of my tips on things to do.

For those who intend to visit the museum, I recommend trying to plan your day to be able to get there in good time. Because it is during the morning, before lunchtime and later in the afternoon that many museums have the least visitors. In this way, it is easier to enjoy the stay without having to crowd with lots of people.

Museum for children
Museiparken includes a large selection of museums suitable for all ages. It is especially a great place for children as all the museums there usually offer fun and educational activities adapted for younger ages. The Police Museum can be found here and once inside is the exhibition Polis, polis. There, children are allowed to sit in the driver’s seat of a real swedish police car aswell as a police motorcycle, turn on the blue light, gas and talk on the police radio. There are also films and narration about how the police here in Sweden used to work in the past. Outside the entrance to the museum is also the traffic area, it is a place where children can learn about traffic rules in a playful way during the summer with the help of pedal cars. In the Museiparken there is also The National Sports Museum of Sweden, a place that depicts Swedish sports from ancient times to the present day. There are physical challenges to take part in, exhibitions to look at and of course there is Konsthall 16. It is Sweden’s first art hall that depicts the meeting between sports and art. In addition to being an interesting and educational place, The National Sports Museum of Sweden is also free, perfect for a spontaneous visit.

Utställning på museum om polis

Museum beyond the ordinary
Here on Djurgården there are several art museums, one of my absolute favorites is The Thiel Gallery which you can find out on beautiful Blockhusudden. The house is located in a nature-filled place and offers a fantastic view out to the water. There is the cozy Café Monika Ahlberg, which sells tasty pastries, sandwiches and lunches. Which makes it the perfect place to recharge the batteries before or after the visit inside the museum. Once inside, you are greeted by unique art collections consisting of paintings and sculptures from a number of prominent artists. The exhibition that appealed to me the most was Stilla Natur created by Oskar Bergman, unfortunately the last day to see it was August 20. That said, it’s worth a visit regardless.

In addition to The Thiel Gallery, I also recommend a visit to The Museum of Spirits at Djurgårdsstrand for the opportunity to experience the REDISCOVER art exhibition. It is a colorful exhibition consisting of glitter, disco music and strong colors. It includes around 90 artworks from the Absolut Art Collection. The exhibition is a way to see how much influence the Absolut brand has had with the international beverage industry. Of course, the museum also provides other exciting exhibitions. Including their main exhibition Dryckeslandet Sweden, the visitor gets to experience scenarios, films, scents and music and the art of creating alcohol. What would be a better fitting end for a visit at The Museum of Spirits if not with the opportunity to take part in their beer tasting or spirit tasting.

Bild från REDISCOVER hos Spritmuseum

For those interested in history, The Viking Museum is located next to Spritmusem. The museum consists of exhibitions that all tell an important part of how Nordic Vikings lived during the Viking Age. It is a unique museum that does an excellent job of letting visitors learn more about the people that lived under the infamous Viking helmets, and whether what is portrayed on film and television really matches what the Vikings actually looked like. To end the visit, enjoy The Viking Ride, which is takes the passengers on a exiting journey through 10th century Europe and the life of a viking family.

The Sculpture Park
Djurgården is a must visit for the beautiful nature and peaceful paths alone. Near the Folke Bernadotte Bridge is the PREKS Sculpture Park. Here you can go for a relaxing walk and at the same time discover the fantastic sculptures that are placed around the area. These are of course free to visit and lets you discover the artistic side of nature. There are currently four permanent sculptures, the latest named Osagd created by Charlotte Gyllenhammar was added in May. Every day until September 1, free guided tours are offered, collection takes place at the PREKS information kiosk next to Folke Bernadotte’s Bridge.

Restaurants
After a fast-paced day at Djurgården, I think it can be nice to sit down and enjoy a good meal. There is a large selection of different restaurants here, including some of Stockholm’s most historic such as Wärdshuset Ulla Winbladh and Villa Godthem. These are perfect for those looking for traditional foods. Food is also offered at almost all the museums on the island. Some try to do the little extra, such as the resturant ELD  at The Viking Museum, which serves traditional Swedish home cooking with a twist. Djurgården is also home to the Michelin-awarded AIRA, which was awarded its second star this year. A must visit for the foodie!

The members of both organizations work in the fields of art, craft and design – they all have a strong connection to materials, something that is defined in the works both concretely and in a conceptual approach.

Fiber Art Sweden continuously seeks out new places and contexts to take up new positions – both in the form of curated exhibitions and conversation series and workshops. LÄNK – LINK – LINKKI has been shown at Hanaholmen’s gallery in autumn 2021 and is now coming to Djurgården.

Ta plats – Kvinnorum November 23 – January 13

Two image weavers have portraits, community involvement and monumental image weaves as a common denominator. The textile artists Berit Sahlström and Astrid Bäckström are two textile artists who throughout history have taken a variety of positions in relation to the works they produced. For the exhibition, the artists have worked with new interpretations of historical works and drew attention to power structures with a certain playfulness. In several of the works, they link to artists and writers via portraits and in this way want to contribute to the discussion about the importance of textile art in the artistic scene today. The exhibition will be framed with performances, poetry and music as well as a workshop. More information on content and dates for this will follow.

How to get to Djurgården on June 6, 2023

On the June 6 there will be a big party here at Royal Djurgården, aswell as in the whole of Stockholm. On june 6 it is 500 years since Gustav Vasa was elected king of Sweden and at the same time our king celebrates 50 years on the throne. The National Day celebration continues throughout the day and reaches its climax when the royal couple arrives at Skansen. So there is every reason to come here and celebrate with us.

Scroll down and get tips on activities.
Warm welcome!

Here are some tips on how to get here on June 6:
Take the boat
The waterways are open, so choose to go here by boat if you have the opportunity.
Djurgårdsfärjan (line 82) runs extra trips all day and line 80 runs heavy traffic from Nybrokajen to Allmänna gränd.
m/s Emelie is also an option.
Take the subway
Of course, the subway runs all day. You can go to Kungsträdgården and combine with boat line 80 which leaves from Nybrokajen. Another option is to go to Slussen and walk to Djurgårdsfärjan, or you can take the subway to Karlaplan and walk a bit..
Cycle and walk
You can always combine cycling and walking here.
Leave the car at home.
It’s a folk festival in the city and then there can be queues. Djurgårdsbron is closed to public car traffic at 8.22am. If you have to take the car, try to find a parking space a little beyond Djurgården, and walk if possible.
And of course – be on time, plan your trip and find the latest news in the sl app.

Suspension of police authority during June 6
The following inforamtion is what the suspensions look like during the day – according to the latest information:

At 8-22. Closed at Djurgårdsbron and Djurgårdsbrunnsvägen for general car traffic.

Licensed vehicles, tourist bus traffic, taxis and public transport can pass.

Total shutdown Djurgårdsbron
(but the boats run extra and you can walk)

At 14.15-18.30 In connection with the motorcade (as in previous years)

At 21-22. Around the Nordic Museum (due to special celebrations this year)

INFORMATION ON PUBLIC TRANSPORT – WITH EXTRA FOCUS ON BUS TRAFFIC, DURING SUMMER’S EVENTS

Here is a summary of information about the traffic this summer.

In general,  the public ferry run more often than before. The Djurgård ferry operates with more boats. Line 80 runs extra trips Nybroplan – Allmänna gränd. Bus traffic is mainly affected during events – with a major impact during National Day – read this extra.

Here you will find an article on the traffic during the National Day aimed at the general public.

Extra boat traffic this summer
June 3 (Saturday) – August 27 (Sunday)

The traffic will run according to a revised summer timetable. The summer timetable is brought forward by 20 days and includes two extra traffic loops. This means increased 4-6 extra departures per hour in each direction Nybroplan-Djurgården and Djurgården-Nybroplan during the period 09-19 (line 80).

Extra boat traffic during events
When bus traffic is most affected, the boats often run extra traffic. Keep an eye on the Djurgårdslinjen, line 80 and m/s Emelie – and of course also hop-on hop-off options.

Impact of bus traffic in connection with events
Here is information on how bus traffic is affected during the summer event.

June 2–14
Bus 67 will have Waldemarsudden as the end stop instead of Blockhusudden, during the period bus 69 will extend and serve the stops Manilla, Thielska gallery and Blockhusudden so that the school, residents and visitors can get there.  Here you can find more information and search for the next journey.

This is with reference to traffic safety as the work with the external music festival Rosendal Garden Party means that there will be several work vehicles and workers moving along Djurgårdsvägen.

During the period 2–14 June, other events will affect this rescheduling.

June 3
Adidas Stockholm Marathon, bus 67 and 69 are completely canceled between approx. 11:00-19:30, in addition to the rescheduling due to Rosendal’s Garden Party.

June 4
Prince Bertil Memorial, Gärdesloppet. On this day, bus 67 will operate its regular route throughout the day. Until about At 18:15, bus 69 will not stop at Djurgårdsbrunn, instead Kaknäs will be the final stop.

June 6
National Day is special this year. Bus 67 will use Karlaplan as the final stop during 14.30-20.40, so there will be no traffic out to Djurgården during this time. Around 20:15-23:00, the line will run the back route between Odenplan-Liljevalchs/Gröna Lund and therefore not stop at the Nordiska museet/Vasa museum.

Travelers who want to take bus 67 towards the city will have to stand at the stops in the direction of Blockhusudden, so in the “wrong” direction compared to normal. Extra important for Gröna Lun’s visitors to know, but everyone who is open in the evening may need to know this.

Bus 69 will be extended to Blockhusudden as usual, but will only serve Karlaplan-Blockhusudden at around 14:30-21:30.

Below is a map of route 67 and how it will run the back road, the map is an aid to bus drivers but can be good to see as an overview.

June 13-14
Between about 15:30-19:30, bus 69 will be cut at the Kaknäs stop and line 67 is still cut at Waldemarsudde, so no traffic goes out towards Manila, Thiel Gallery, Blockhusudden during these times.

Some information about the upcoming Rosendal Garden Party on June 9-11 (note: there is no festival on June 8).
The area will begin to be established on Saturday 3 June and the decommissioning is expected to be completed by Wednesday 14 June. In connection with construction/decommissioning, there may be heavy traffic on Djurgårdsvägen, Fredrik Bloms Väg, Valmundsvägen, Rosendalsvägen and Manillavägen.

We will encourage everyone to use public transport or cycle to the area. The entrance is located a bit into the forest at the intersection Djurgårdsvägen/Valmundsvägen. In connection with the event, some roads will be closed with guard. This includes parts of Djurgårdsvägen after the Italian Embassy, Valmundsvägen and parts of Bergsjölundsvägen.
